Over the past eight years South Grand Prairie High School’s
robotics team has been able to completely embody the meaning
of FIRST. Team 704 exhibits gracious professionalism in
everything we do. We make sure we have fun while learning
about the engineering process, science, and technology,
and are outspoken about their importance to modern society.
We take pride in our appearance; we put a lot of effort
into designing and building and it shines through in our
beautiful and robust robots. We have dedicated students
that are strongly interested in science and technology.
Most of our alumni team members are actively pursuing degrees
in science and engineering and come back year after year
to mentor our team. We have continuously promoted FIRST
and science and technology to students and adults alike
in our community. We network with professional companies,
getting them involved with FIRST just as we are, and getting
our students connections that they will possess for the
rest of their lives.
In the News:
Congratulations to senior Ciara Waldron for winning the
UT Austin FIRST scholarship!
This year, for the first time, Team 704 Warriors participated
in two FIRST Robotics regionals - the new Dallas Regional
at SMU's Moody Coliseum (March 12-14) and the Lone Star
Regional in Houston, TX (March 26-28). The Warriors finished
the Dallas Regional qualification rounds seeded sixth out
of fifty participating teams, and proceed to the elimination
matches alongisde Team 476 and Team 2352. After three tight
matches, the alliance lost in the quarterfinals, but the
704 robot took home the General Motors Industrial Design
Award for its elegant design and simplicity. Just two weeks
later, the SGP Warriors celebrated their first regional
championship since 2001, with Team 1421 and alliance captain,
Team 2587, at the Lone Star Regional. The robot's robust
design in concept won over the hearts of a second set of
judges in Houston, as the team took home the Motorola Quality
Award. On April 16-18, also for the first time, Team 704 looks
to take on another monster challenge at the FIRST World
Championships at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. Good luck,
team!
